Dawn Freda Stilburn 1916 - 1996
Dawn Stilburn, Life Member of the Society, died on Sunday May 19th 1996 and her funeral was held on Thursday 23rd with members and ex-members present.
Dawn joined the Society in 1947 and in 1950 was elected to the Committee on which she served for 25 years in jobs ranging from Librarian to Secretary.
In 1966 Dawn was elected a Life Member of the Society and was always ready to help new members.
In 1950 Dawn, under the name
"Maxine", started a column in the Bulletin as the Society's magazine
was then called.
In 1953 she wrote under her own name.
She also wrote leaflets on different subjects, one about Axolotls which is still used as a reference by club members.
In 1958 she imported some Black Angels and bred them in 1959.
Along with her Axolotls Dawn always had White Clouds and Leopard fish to spare, while the Whistling frogs out the back door were a great sight and if lucky a great sound.
Dawn was good with her camera and her slides on a slide showing night were a treat.
A Cacti Club member and grower of Orchids, Dawn was a keen gardener with a lovely garden.
As Dawn was an excellent artist and sign writer you can be sure that any fish show was always well decorated and her talks to the Club helped by excellent diagrams.
Those of us who served with her on committees and learnt from her, will sadly miss her.
Farewell Dawn.
